10/4/2010 - Homicide of Rosa Sandoval

Rosa Sandoval (12) went to Sky Harbor Elementary.  She lived at 8762 Seven Seas Dr., San Antonio, Texas with her mother (39), father (46), sisters (20, 18,), and brother (15). She has another sister (23) who is married and does not live with them.  The family has lived in the United States for five years, coming from Jalpa, Mexico.

Rosa was last seen alive on Thursday evening, May 27, 2004 by her family.  Circumstances in this case are vague.  Rosa either left her house that evening or early next morning without telling anyone.  This was very unusual according to family members.  Her sister, Gabriella, who sleeps in the same room as Rosa claims to have not seen her that evening or the following morning.

Rosa was not in her bed the next morning.  Her backpack full of books and a 3 liter bottle of sprite were also gone.  The 3 liter of sprite was purchased the day before because it was the last day of school and she was supposed to bring an item for a school party.

Rosa was reported missing on May 28, 2004 and the search began with months going by with negative results.   The FBI was called in to assist in the investigation.  Approximately 60 people were interviewed and provided formal statements to police.  Police searched the Sandoval house with negative results.  Individuals interviewed included family members, friends of Rosa and the family, school teachers, counselors, and neighbors.  No information from these individuals led officials to find Rosa.

On December 10, 2004, a human skull was found off the side of the road which resulted in a search of the other bones.  Most of the human remains were found in a brushy area and flooded area at the 11700 Blk of Kearney Rd., Bexar County, Texas.  The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office handled the scene and SAPD handed their case file and jurisdiction of the homicide to the Sheriff’s Office.  The human skeleton was positively identified as Rosa Sandoval and clothes found at the scene matched what Rosa was wearing the last time she was seen alive.

Bexar County Sheriff’s Office now has jurisdiction in the case and is currently focusing on a few individuals that may have additional information in the case.  No specific suspect has been identified.  The case remains open and active.
