On Thursday  9/12/2024, at 6:53 am, Maria Martinez was walking across Babcock Rd from the northeast side of the street to the southwest side of street.  It was dark outside and Martinez was not crossing at a crosswalk.  The area was not well lit.  Martinez was struck by a white, Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling southeast on the 500 block of Babcock Rd.  The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado stopped at the location to render aid.  While the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was attempting to render aid to Martinez, she and the driver were both struck by a mid-size light colored SUV also traveling southeast on Babcock Rd.  After the crash the driver of the SUV did not stop to attempt to render any type aid and fled the location.  Martinez succumbed to the injuries from the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado sustained serious bodily injuries and was transported to University Hospital by EMS.
